Leh is the capital of Ladakh situated at the altitude of 3524 meters/11,562 feet. It small fascinating market is surrounded by several villages, Changspa, Chubi, Skara, Samkar, Yourtung, Gompa, and Shastang within the radius of 3-5kms.In ancient period Leh was filled with pony caravan traders from central Asian countries carrying textiles, spices, raw silk, carpets, dyestuff and narcotics. Below the Lhachen Phalkar palace there is Gompa Soma Monastery, Avalokiteshvara shrine room, Maitreya Buddha shrine room and Leh old quarters. Samkar Gompa located just 3 Kms from Leh market in the middle of silent and serene Samkar village. Shanti Stupa, the Stupa of Shakyamumi Buddha located on the top of mountain of the Changspa village, builted by Japanese Buddhist Association for world Peace. At Namgyal Tsemo fort and Shanti Stupa there is picturesque view Leh town, snow Peak Mountains of Zanskar range the Sub-ranges of Great Himalayas, and Indus valley at different angles.
