The trek from Rumtse to Tsomoriri Lake is renowned for its distinctive characteristics, including expansive arid plains, the presence of Changpa nomads, elevated pasturelands, snow-capped mountains, and picturesque lakes. Commencing at Rumtse village, located at an altitude of 4,100 meters and approximately 70 kilometers from Leh, the route navigates several high passes and regions that serve as vital wildlife sanctuaries, home to snow leopards, wild asses, and diverse bird species, including the black-necked crane. The trek culminates at Tsomoriri Lake, positioned in the Changthang region, known as the "nomadic highland" in eastern Ladakh, near the Tibetan border, and recognized as one of the largest high-altitude lakes within the Trans-Himalayan bio-geographic area, entirely situated in India.
