Hemis National Park in Ladakh, India's best-protected area for Snow Leopards is one of the best places to see these magnificent cats as they are generally found at an elevations between 3000-4500m.This trek takes you through stunning Himalayan alpine and sub-alpine zones where vegetation is sparse and temperature is extreme. Being whitish-grey in color (tinged with yellow) and patterned with dark grey rosettes and spots, the Snow Leopard exhibits superb camouflage for its mountain environment of bare rocks and snow. During this trek you would be accompanied by our expert naturalists and local trackers whose local expertise in this harsh terrain and their intrinsic training to look for the minutest evidences like pugmarks, scrapes and scats to track this elusive cat, is unmatched. While the sighting of this mysterious cat can in no way be guaranteed, the Snow Leopard Trek offers a unique opportunity to understand this amazing specimen and its habitat while trekking through some spectacular.
Day 01: Arrival Leh Kushok Bakula Airport (3500 Mtr).
Upon arrival at Leh airport welcome by our representative and transfer to Hotel/Guest. Full day rest at hotel for acclimatization as it is important at the height of Ladakh. Lunch will be served at 2:00PM. Afternoon around 3:30PM short sightseeing to Shanti Stupa. Dinner & overnight at Leh in Hotel.
Day 03: Full day sightseeing of Indus valley. (Round 94km - 5/6hrs).
Today after breakfast full day sightseeing of 16th century Shey palace, Thiksay monastery and 17th century Hemis monastery. Sightseeing start with 17th century Hemis monastery 47km from on the way stop to take the photos Shey palace and Thiksay monastery. After Hemis monastery drive 14th century Thiksay on the same way back. Visit Thiksay monastery and Lunch at Thiksay monastery. After Thiksay monastery drive back to Leh on the way 16th century Shey palace. Dinner and overnight at Leh in Hotel/Guest house.
Day 02: Half day walking tour of Leh town for acclimatization.
Today after breakfast half day sightseeing of Leh town by hiking for acclimatization and preparation for snow leopard trek. Sightseeing includes the Shanti Stupa, Samkar Gompa, Namygal Tsemo and Leh palace. After hike lunch will serve at Hotel. After lunch free and pack one own personal items for snow leopard trek. Dinner and overnight at Leh in hotel.
Day 04: Leh to Zingchen and short trek to Rumbak village.(1 hrs trek)
Today after breakfast, drive to Zingchen, and start short trek along the Zingchen Gorge to Rumbak village. Continue up the gorge, a dramatic entry to the snow leopard’s high altitude home in Rumbak valley of Hemis National Park. Enroute, watch amidst the cliffs and at the base of rocks where they mark their turf for sign of snow leopard, and other wildlife. Overnight at Rumbak village(12,400) in Homestay.
Day 05: Full day wildlife viewing. Overnight at Rumbak village in Homestay.
Proceed for full day of tracking snow leopard and its wildlife prey. Hemis National Park is home to blue sheep, argali (a large horned sheep), numerous mountain and migratory birds, as well as an occasional Tibetan wolf. You are likely to see sign of snow leopard as winter is the time that they descend to lower elevations. If lucky, you’ll actually see one perched high in the rocks or balanced on a near vertical ridge. Return to Homestay for some warming tea. Overnight at Rumbak village in Homestay.
Day 06: Full day wildlife viewing. Overnight at Rumbak village in Homestay.
Spend another day on the look-out for snow leopard and its prey. The views of this stark landscape, the sky pierced by upward tilted strata and – on snow-free days -- the ground adorned with hardy alpine plants, provides constant fascination. Camp.
Day 07: Full day wildlife viewing. Overnight at Rumbak village in Homestay.
Trek to nearby sites where snow leopard may have been sighted recently. Visit and overnight in a neighboring village, Rumbak, and experience a homestay. Homestay hosts have been trained in hospitality and are members of a community conservation effort to conserve the endangered snow leopard. Learn about their livestock herding practices and try your hand at winter pastimes (spinning, weaving, and turning a tale). Spend the days tracking snow leopard and wildlife, and overnight at Rumbak village in a homestay. Elevation 13,500’
Day 08: Trek to Zingchen, and from Zingchen return to Leh by Jeep. Overnight at Leh.
Say goodbye to your hosts and hike down-valley past familiar snow leopard haunts and piles of carved Tibetan prayer stones to the road head at Zingchen; 5 hrs. Drive to Leh, and check into a hotel/Guest house. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 09: Leh to Delhi by flight.
Early morning transfer to Leh airport and fly to Delhi
