The Markha Valley trek is located within the Hamis National Park, which was established in 1981 to protect the valley's diverse flora and fauna. This remote valley in Ladakh lies within the Zanskar Range gorge, parallel to the Indus Valley, and is renowned for its stunning landscapes. The trek features towering rock formations, steep cliffs, narrow gorges, and prayer-flagged passes, showcasing a variety of terrains and lush green oases, all under the watchful presence of Kang Yatse (6400 meters) to the east and the Zanskar Range to the southwest. Along the route, trekkers will encounter several high-altitude villages, each home to ancient monasteries and fields of barley, wheat, and mustard, enhancing the beauty of this unique landscape. Additionally, the trek offers opportunities to observe rare and endangered wildlife, including the elusive Snow Leopard, Ibex, Tibetan Antelope, Blue Sheep, Shapo, Marmot, and Tibetan Hare, as well as various bird species such as the Snow Partridge, Golden Oriole, Snow Cock, Golden Eagle, and Horned Lark.
